Halloween is one night a year. You can spend it queuing at a busy bar, watching something on the sofa, or — if you’re feeling brave — doing something you’ll be talking about for weeks. SCREAMS! at Thornton Hall Country Park is very much the latter.
Located on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border, SCREAMS! has quickly become one of the most talked-about Halloween scare events in the north of England. Award-winning attractions, a free-entry arena, live entertainment, street food, and three genuinely terrifying scare mazes — all just 45 minutes from Manchester and Leeds.

Not all horror is the same, and SCREAMS! leans into that. Each of the three live scare attractions has its own brand of fear, and terrifying characters to match.
Malkin Manor
A Victorian haunted house that feels like it has a life of its own. Intricate set design, live scare actors lurking around every corner, and the unsettling feeling that you’re never quite alone. Malkin Manor is theatrical, immersive, and deeply creepy — the kind of experience where you’ll find yourself holding your breath without realising it.
Jinxed
If clowns don’t bother you, Jinxed will change that. This carnival-themed maze throws you into a bright, chaotic funhouse world that’s anything but fun. Disorienting layouts, unexpected scares, and characters who thrive on watching you panic. It’s the “safest” of the three — but that’s relative.
BLACKMARKET: Killstream
Not for the faint-hearted. BLACKMARKET is an extreme horror experience with immersive storytelling that gets uncomfortably close. Actors don’t just scare you — they interact with you, direct you, and make sure you feel every moment. This one has been nominated for Best Scare Maze at the Thrill Nation Halloween Awards, and it earns every bit of that recognition.
The SCREAMS! Arena — free to enter
Not everyone in your group will want to face a scare maze, and that’s absolutely fine. The SCREAMS! Arena is free to enter and packed with reasons to stay. Live entertainment runs throughout the evening, roaming characters keep things unpredictable, and there are fairground rides for those who want their adrenaline served differently. A fully licensed bar and a street food truck serving home-cooked food round things out nicely.
It’s a proper night out before you’ve even set foot in a maze.
